I play much better on a full stomach...I wonder if Nadal does?

I got together with some guys from "the club" last night...(can't believe I belong to a club). I worked all day and felt a bit fatigued but usually I am invigorated by tennis. Even though I started out really playing well, after 3 games I could barely get out of my own way...and I could not hit a shot. Too short a swing... too long a shot... No Backhand at all!! Now I do not play that well on a good day...somehow after a year of playing I am rated as a 3.0 (so much for the rating system.) but last night I was bad...I played so poorly that even the friendly guys were a bit, shall we say...Frustrated with me. Tennis players I think are a lot like most groups of people... They are nice enough when they meet you...and if you goof up a few times they kid with you... but sooner or later they figure out what kind of game you have and then the competitive players seem to pair off before they get there... those left get stuck with me. Well I felt stuck with me last night... We stopped playing at 8:30 and said "see ya next week" (I wonder if they mean it?). As I drove home brooding a bit, thinking about what a great bowler I once was, it hit me.."I did not eat any dinner tonight"... in fact I am trying to diet (still) and really did not eat much all day...So that must be it...(next week guys I promise to stop for a sandwich..I mean a salad... I will be awesome at the net next week!... I got home and told the pouncer (Bonnie)... about my woes and how to cure them by a mild repast... had a sandwich and settled into to watch the "open" (can't believe I say the "open"). Nadal was playing Ferrar... and Nadal started off really hot. He took the first set in a tie break and looked like he would cruise the rest of the way. But then, he started to falter... eventually losing the match after a blistering night of play. Funny, as I headed for bed I remembered something from the pre match interview... The announcer said that because of the delay in the start of the game... the players had not eaten for several hours... just a throw away line I guess... But wait! ME TOO!!! Nadal...you shoulda grabbed a sandwich! Maybe instead of the super water you drank between games you might have been better off with a super sized cheeseburger.... That settles it for me...from now on I'm packing a "little something" in my bag... and it won't be trail mix...
